Through education and community, Mercedes Wong believes that building legacy means investing in future generations and creating opportunities where they are needed most.
Mercedes believes that strong family values are the foundation for building better communities. By empowering generations through education, mentorship, affordable housing, and meaningful opportunities, she seeks to create lasting impact.
Following the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, more than 300 elementary school children were left without a safe place to learn. Mercedes’s father donated land and built the school to restore access to education for local families.
Mercedes continues this tradition of giving. When she was President of the Rotary Club of Vancouver Fraserview, she helped raise funds to build a school stage that also serves as an emergency shelter for future disasters. She remains actively involved with the school and its students.
Her legacy in education also extends to Canada. The CCIM Western Canada Chapter established the Mercedes Wong Scholarship in recognition of her leadership and dedication to supporting future professionals.
Mercedes’s commitment to education and empowering communities also extended to media. She was the original creator and producer of Real Estate 101 TV, a series designed to give home buyers, sellers, and real estate enthusiasts an insider’s advantage in Vancouver’s competitive property market. By combining expert interviews, real life scenarios, and engaging storytelling, the show helped viewers better understand complex real estate challenges and opportunities, leaving a lasting impact on public understanding of Vancouver’s evolving property landscape.
Her work builds on a long history of leadership and service. Mercedes served as Vice President of the Yaletown Business Improvement Association and was instrumental in helping establish the organization. She also served as President of the Yaletown Galleria Strata Council and as Vice President and Director of the Yaletown Business Association from 2001 to 2007. During this time, she worked with the Fair Tax Coalition to advocate for fairer commercial property taxes, which at the time were six times higher than residential rates, helping support a more sustainable and thriving business community.
Today, Mercedes continues this legacy through her latest initiative, Generations Village, an intergenerational housing model designed to bring seniors, families, and younger generations together in supportive, connected communities. She is actively seeking collaborators, including developers, community organizations, and institutional partners, to help bring this vision to life.
Through education, mentorship, and community investment, Mercedes Wong continues to build lasting legacies that empower future generations. She has made a meaningful community impact through her leadership, volunteerism, and support of organizations including the Seniors Services Society of British Columbia, Medallion Housing Society, Aboriginal Mother Centre Society, Vancouver Native Health Society, Rotary Club of Vancouver Fraserview, Rotary World Help, and many more organizations, helping strengthen communities and create opportunities for those in need.
Currently, Mercedes serves as Vice President of International Development and Licensed Commercial REALTOR® with Prominent Real Estate Services, while also serving as President with Builders Without Borders Foundation, on the Finance Committee of the Seniors Services Society of British Columbia, real estate program advisor for the Acsenda School of Management (ASM) and as a director for the Philippines Canada Trade Council. She previously served as Vice Chair of the Canadian Chapter of the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE). Her leadership also includes more than two decades as Director and Treasurer of the Aboriginal Mother Centre Society, Director-at-large and Commercial Division President of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, and past Director of G & F Financial Group, where she helped guide its growth from a small credit union into a billion dollar financial institution.
Mercedes Wong has made a meaningful community impact through her leadership, volunteerism, and support of organizations including the Seniors Services Society of British Columbia, Medallion Housing Society, Aboriginal Mother Centre Society, Vancouver Native Health Society, Rotary Club of Vancouver Fraserview, and Rotary World Help, and many more organizations.
